Good Careers apart from MBBS...

What if I am not selected in PMT or in MBBS ? This question continuously haunts a PMT aspirant. The answers are multiple. You have to decide for yourself based on your PMT score and your capabilities. I have listed all the options :

1. If you clear the PMT prelims and are not able to clear the mains, I would suggest that you should give it another try. Take a light B.Sc. course (example Botany/Zoology/chemistry which will also boost your preparation and you do not loose a year) and keep preparing for PMT. Work harder this time. Do SWOT analysis of yourself.
To know more on SWOT analysis, visit http://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newTMC_05_1.htm

2. If you are not selected in PMT prelims for less than 5% ( eg cut off score is 50% and you score 46%). Do same as point 1.

3. If you are not selected in PMT prelims between 5-10 %(eg cut off score is 50% and you score 41%). It depends completely on your confidence level and your capabilities. If you are not sure on your capabilities, you should quit because clearing prelims is not enough. Next year, you need to clear the mains too to get a seat. Mains is even tougher than prelims. If you are sure of your capabilities, follow point 1.

4. If you miss PMT prelims by more than 10%, you should quit. Most people, after hard work are able to increase their score by 10% in second attempt. If you loose the bus by more than 10%, it is likely that you may clear prelims but you may miss the mains, wasting 1 important year.

Good careers apart from MBBS:

- B.Sc. + M.B.A.
Many doctors are also taking this field. An IIM student can earn a salary of 1 crore which is greater than most doctors.

- B.Pharm + M.Pharm.
Big pharma companies are continuously in search of good M.Pharms. There is a big demand and supply gap in M.Pharm. Many colleges are not even having M.Pharm principal's. If you take up a job in industry (after M.Pharm), your salary can be around 1 lakh per month.

- B.Sc. + IAS/IPS.
You need to be a graduate to appear in UPSC exam (exam to become IAS/IPS). Where other graduations can be completed in 4 years (engineering, BDS), B.Sc. can be completed in 3 years, saving 1 year.

- Politician.
If you are having good contacts in any political party, this is the ever green branch for money making. Property of politicians is increasing by 300-400% every year (as per NDTV reports). No other field offers such a huge growth rate.

- B.Sc. Nursing.
Nurses with above qualification can join any big hospital and can make between 2-3 lakh per month. There is huge scope in US and UK. Moreover, there is huge demand supply gap. Salaries are bound to increase. Most people are unaware about this field.
